I love this video so so much. As a serial entrepreneur with several businesses to manage, nothing will ruin my day like paperwork for my small businesses. After waiting on hold with the Secretary of State for North Carolina now for 40 minutes and counting, my blood is boiling and I want to be an advocate for all my lady entrepreneurs out there that the government stop torturing us with this f&%ing paperwork (like, literal paperwork) and this form and that form and this annual filing and that annual filing. I waste a MINIMUM of 1 hour per week dealing with the government on average. Maybe that doesn’t seem like a ton of time to you, but to me when I have so many more pressing things on my to-do list than to check some arbitary box in the governemnts checklist of horrible sh*t I have to focus on for them because they are too cheap and lazy to just let us fill out every damn form online. Every single one.
No more printing waste. No more mailing cost. No more hunting and wasting time and getting stressed about a document that I’m supposed to keep on file for 25 years and have no earthly idea where it could be or why in the world I would have to use this one particular document to prove anything because, NEWS FLASH, you take my tax dollars so I would say that any tax document should suffice as proof that my f*&king business is still running.
The hoops they make us jump through are not okay. They can talk about security all they want, but let’s get real. Every single thing about us is online. I don’t care if all my dumb business documents that don’t actually help me run my business better or do any damn thing for my businesses except suck them dry.
Businesses are hurting. People are hurting. We have not all recovered from COVID. Some of us are really struggling. We are seeing businesses that seemingly survived COVID now shut down because holding everything together by a string for the last 4 years has finally done them in. The PPP paperwork was a nightmare and the distributions unfair. The Employee Retention Credit has been put on hold and we have now been waiting for almost a year for our first reimbursement (they owe us $62,000 for the ERC and we have not seen a dime of it yet).
I am so absolutely sick and tired of our government and the way they treat small businesses. They should be here to support us and help us thrive, not bog us down with scary shit like shutting us down if we get behind on our taxes. It’s a David vs. Goliath situation, and there are a lot more Davids—we just have to unite together and say we are not going to do things like this anymore. Hire people from Silicon Valley or Google or whatever and give our entire government a digital overhaul. Now. You are wasting people’s precious time, energy, resources, and sanity. Make it as simple as a few clicks instead of notarize this, verify that. You take, take, take from us. What do you really give back to small businesses, United States Government?
